The Canadian Apparel Federation are hosting a seminar on May 11, 2016, presented by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, covering import? procedures for apparel and textile products entering the United States.?

The seminar will provide our members with an opportunity to learn about rules of origin, labeling and marking and other entry procedures directly from US Customs and Border Protection.

This session will:

  • Briefly outline? NAFTA rules of origin for textiles and apparel
  • Outline requirement of the certificate of origin (and verification procedures)
  • Outline procedures for utilizing Tariff Preference Levels (TPL) for exports to the US
  • Outline labeling requirements for apparel? and textile articles
  • Outline product safety requirements for apparel and other textile articles, and explain how U.S. Customs works with the CPSC and how they enforce those regulations
  • Outline the entry process and identify common problems and best practices
  • Explain the treatment of apparel manufactured outside of N. America

This seminar is an excellent opportunity to understand the requirements of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.? It will focus on key issues for Canadian exporters, and? identify common problems and best practices.?

While there are many sources of information on customs procedures this seminar allows exporters to hear directly from U.S. Customs officers regarding the import process. More than anything else it is an opportunity to communicate directly with the officials from US Customs that are involved in determining whether your goods are able to enter the US.

CAF has begun work on hosting a similar event in Toronto and possibly Vancouver.
